Open Space Advisory
West Pikeland Land Trust is the Open Space
Advisor to the Board of Supervisors for the township’s
Open Space Preservation Program. As advisor, WPLT
assesses conservation opportunities in the township and
recommends uses for the funds raised from the open space
preservation tax, such as
-
Purchase
conservation easements on private properties in West
Pikeland;
-
Purchase land to
be held as permanent open space;
-
Purchase
transferable development rights to prevent further
development.
Evaluation of individual opportunities is performed by an
Open Space Advisory Committee composed of WPLT board
members and resident-volunteers. The committee
works with interested landowners in the township to
secure conservation easements on their properties and
seeks to maximize open space funding by obtaining
matching funds from county and state grants. The
committee
meets
monthly to review and prioritize projects using a
detailed
screening tool developed for this purpose.
Committee meetings are open to the public.
